Details:
Cla-1 (cd36 and limpii analogous-1) is member of a novel gene family that includes cd36, limpii, and sr-bi. Cd36 is a cell surface glycoprotein that binds to collagen type i and thrombospondin. Limpii (lysosomal integral membrane protein ii), as its name suggests, is expressed on the membrane of lysosomes. Sr-bi (scavenger receptor type b class i) is involved in the selective uptake of cholesterol esters. These proteins include two membrane-anchoring regions, two short cytoplasmic tails, and a large extracellular/luminal domain. Cla-1 mrna is detected in a wide range of tissues including adrenal glands, liver, and testis. Its expression and similarity with other family members suggest it may play a role in hdl metabolism. However, identification of the cla-1 receptor on monocytes indicates additional cla-1 functions in leukocytes.Immunofluorescence, western blotting
