Dii^ is a widely used carbocyanine dye to label cell membranes. Its high photostability & low toxicity allow the dye to be used for the anterograde and retrograde labeling of neurons, as well as for long term cell tracing in cultures & in living embryos or animals. Dii has orange-red fluorescence.
