Mature βa-monomer lacks a potential n-linked glycosylation site and has a calculated molecular weight of 13kda. A member of the tgf-β superfamily that is involved in the negative regulation of b lineage lymphocytes. Shown to play an important role in the regulation of hormonogenesis, cellular homeostasis, and differentiation programs. Reported to inhibit endogenous production of il-6.
