Recombinant, human granzyme a expressed in e. Coli. Granzyme a is a trypsin-like serine protease secreted by cytotoxic t lymphocytes (ctl) and natural killer (nk) cells. A proapoptotic enzyme that induces cell death through caspase-independent mechanism, causing single-stranded dna nicking and other apoptotic features including nuclear fragmentation, chromatin condensation, loss of mitochondrial potential, and membrane blebbing. Granzyme a is also known to bind to and cleave nucleolin and activate the thrombin receptor on neuronal cells and astrocytes. It also cleaves and activates interleukin-1β. Note: the m.W. Is that of a homodimer.
