Potent modulator of monocyte/macrophage function. Exhibits anti-inflammatory effects by suppressing macrophage proliferation. Blocks lipopolysaccharide induction of mmp-2 and mmp-9. Known to reduce neuronal degeneration following cns injury by blocking glutamate-induced caspase-3 activation. Human il-10 is also active on murine cell lines.
